A fluid and grounding practice at a pace that allows awareness of movements, body sensations, and breathing. My teaching includes an infusion of Vinyasa and Hatha yoga blended with my own creative practice of yoga, qi gong, and pilates.
This class is for those wishing to explore playfully the effects of postures, conscious breathing, and meditation on the body and the mind. From time to time you may explore your limits but always in a safe way and when you feel ready.
How is a flow yoga class going?
Generally, the yoga classes start with a little meditation and pranayama (breathwork) and warm-up postures, to stretch the body and activate the joints.
Then we continue with standing and seated asanas (yoga postures). The focus of the classes is on noticing sensations and exploring choices.
There are no physical assists. The instructions given are invitations to explore your own shape from the suggested shape.
We always finish with savasana, a relaxing pose, to cool the mind and the body.
These classes are trauma-informed classes.
On Monday, yoga class is followed by half an hour of sitting meditation for those who wish.
On Wednesday, yoga class is followed by a swim at Totland Bay for those who wish and when weather permits.
What do you need?
Props and mats are available for you in the studio.
There is no need to wear tight stretchy leggings and tops. The only thing that matters is that you wear comfortable clothes that you can easily move in.
As you move through a class you can get warm so it’s good to wear clothes that keep you cool, but bring a jumper for relaxation, when the body rapidly cools down.
